What is chair yoga?

Chair Yoga is an uplifting, modified form of traditional yoga suitable for people with limited mobility, lack of flexibility, a problem with joints or recovering from injury or illness.

Each of the stretches are done while seated, so you don’t have to ever be on the floor. Classes are open to both men and women and our ages range from 60 years old.

Why do chair yoga?

It’s never too late to start chair yoga. It is accessible to all levels of flexibility and strength and brings so many benefits.

You’ve heard that you should “use it or lose it”. Why not work with what you have now and see where you can build in flexibility, strength and stamina. What you do today will mean that you can enjoy life having the energy to be with the grandkids, the flexibility to reach that back cupboard in the kitchen and serenity to cope with some of the challenges that life brings.

Testimonials

Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our students say:

Paula’s lessons are fantastic, so good for the mind and body.

I’ve been doing her lessons since 2018 and can thoroughly recommend them for any oldies (and others) who want to keep their bodies supple and flexible.

Belinda, Sydney

Chair yoga is a wonderful find. It is geared towards people who are either older or for some reason less agile.
It can be done at home via the ubiquitous Zoom and provides both a meditative, relaxed session along with the great benefits of simple yogic exercises.
Paula who teaches the course is obviously well-qualified and an extremely appealing teacher, responsive to her students and bringing a sense of peacefulness to her classes.
Highly recommended.

Helen, Sydney

I have been participating in Paula’s chair yoga classes for eighteen months and loving it. Twice a week, I religiously zoom in to spend one hour of meditation, exercises and stretches. It is calming for the mind, a boon during the difficult and stressful days of lockdown, which in Melbourne were many.
Best of all, I find that I have increased my range of movement, my flexibility and my general well-being. In addition, I find that my summer clothes are less tight than they were last year. The exercises have reshaped my body even though my weight has remained unchanged. Paula’s yoga offers tailored benefits to all, irrespective of age or physical condition.

Fran, Melbourne

I joined Paula’s Chair Yoga for Seniors on Zoom in mid-2020 when Mr COVID caused a change in our lifestyle – this is one positive from his arrival. I participate twice a week and love it; the relaxed pace of the exercises and poses, the breathing awareness, and the meditations all work together for a wonderful hour.
Paula is amazing at remembering her right is our left and vice versa; she does not expect anyone with serious mobility or balance issues to attempt anything that might compromise their situation but offers alternatives.
Paula’s manner is friendly, calm and caring, even to the extent of providing a 30mins video session on YouTube while on holiday, I have no problems recommending Chair Yoga on Zoom to anyone.

Veronica, Taree, NSW

Paula is a warm, gentle encouraging teacher who manages to teach using technology with great skill and enthusiasm.
No easy feat.
Her thoughtful attention to different abilities in class means that she creates a very inclusive class that you want to keep returning to.

I have greatly appreciated her classes during various lockdowns and was so impressed with her teaching I roped in all my older family members!
